Today, March 17, 2020 Governor Laura Kelly announced all school facilities will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This will place tremendous hardship on our families and staff, and impact the social and emotional well-being of our students. We have been working on contingency plans since mid-March, including how we can continue to meet the ongoing learning needs of our students and provide meals for our students as well. Our staff and board of education are also working on other critical issues, such as what this means for our seniors, how this will affect next school year and what impact this will have on our employees. We will provide updates on these issues as soon as the information is available. We are committed to working together as a community to support one another throughout these unprecedented times, and communication will remain a top priority. We will continue updating you on our Live Feed portion of our website as well as on our official Facebook page. We will make all-calls once our plan is in place to share our educational plans with all of you. Call the district office at 620-596-2152 if you are not on our All Call list at present. As a reminder, this school closure is in response to the current public health crisis. The focus should remain on preventing the spread of the coronavirus, or COVID-19 as it is also referred to. Please be mindful of the following: Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing. Cough/sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue. Keep sick children at home Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms. Follow additional guidance from these sources: National Center for Disease Control (https://www.cdc.gov/) Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment (http://www.kdheks.gov) Reno County Health Dept. (https://www.renogov.org/239/Health-Department) We are Fairfield strong. We will make it through this difficult time. Stay tuned for more information. By request of KSDE, Fairfield Schools will be closed this week (3/16-3/20) and also remain closed the following week for our regularly scheduled Spring Break. This is being done statewide as an effort to stem the spread of COVID-19. Please try over the next two weeks to avoid being in large groups of people. The District Office will remain open, and custodial staff will report to do a deep cleaning. We are currently working on a plan to deliver food to students in each community and once that is finalized, we will make an another all-call. Teachers will not be on campus, nor will any other employee unless they are custodial or food service. No USD #310 buses will run. Thank you for your support and patience. This is unchartered territory for all of us, but we will make it through.
