Fairfield Hires New Superintendent
Fairfield USD #310 is announcing the hiring of a new superintendent. On Monday, April 9, USD 310 Board of Education President Derek Zongker announced the 5-0 vote Monday night, April 9th at the regularly scheduled board of education meeting. Betsy McKinney will start as the district's new superintendent, effective July 1, 2018.
With the vote, the school board says McKinney becomes the district's 11th superintendent.
McKinney will follow Superintendent Dr. Nathan Reed, who has been appointed the Superintendent of Winfield USD 465. Betsy McKinney is not a new face to Fairfield; she has been a part of the Fairfield District since 1987, serving as a teacher for 26 years and as the elementary principal for the past five years. She earned her Master’s Degree from Wichita State University and her Superintendent’s Certification through Fort Hays State University. She and her husband Tim McKinney of rural Abbyville have two sons who are both Fairfield High School graduates and Reno County residents.
“This is an awesome opportunity and I feel honored to lead the Fairfield District. I believe we have a strong board of education with a passion for doing what is best for our students and staff. I look forward to helping implement the board’s vision and goals for our district. I’m excited for the opportunity to continue the extremely positive direction that Fairfield has taken,” stated McKinney.
USD 310 Board of Education President Derek Zongker stated of McKinney’s appointment, “We are excited to see Betsy take the helm of USD 310. She has been a valued asset throughout the years in different capacities. We look forward to her leadership and perspective as a 31-year veteran of our district as a teacher, principal, and now superintendent.”
