Day 1 of Senior Project Presentations is over and it was a great showcase of the talent and hard work the class of 2019 put in!
Students who presented:
- Jaetyn Conrad - Dietetics. Jaetyn's project was in anticipation of her college major and future career. She designed and documented an eating plan for a couple of volunteers who followed her suggestions for six weeks to improve their eating habits.
- Vanessa Schoenecker - Starting a Daycare. Since USD 310 started the daycare facility, Vanessa has worked there each day and decided she wants to pursue either working at a daycare facility after graduation or starting her own. Her project gave insight into what it takes to start, run and maintain daycare so that it complies with regulations.
- Zach Love - Agronomy. This was another project in anticipation of a future career and it turned out the project helped Zach define a new direction for his education and career future. During his research and interviews, he learned about a number of technology advancements that make farming much more precise than it has ever been before.
- Noah Witt - Grades 3-5 Football Camp. Noah had been coaching after school basketball and decided he would like to try working with students in grades 3-5 on football skills. He hosted a Saturday morning football camp.
- Trent Evans - Woodworking. Thinking he might like to do woodworking as a future career, Trent built a workbench he designed as his project. After doing some research and interviews, he decided he would rather keep woodworking as something he loves to do as a hobby but not try to make a living at it.
- Chinarah Hill - Cataracts. Chinarah's father had very significant cataracts so her project was about the progression from cataracts to vision loss to corrective surgery and through recovery.
- Gauge Belvin - Audio Books for Children. As a service to young and learning readers, Gauge recorded several children's books and created mp3 files that students can check out along with the book to read along out loud to them. He used Garage Band to create the files and discovered there is a LOT more to recording audio books than you might think!
- Verenice Sanchez - Writing a Children's Book. Verenice wrote a children's book and illustrated it for her project. The plan was to complete it, publish and print a copy to leave in the Fairfield Library for students to check out. She learned about ISBN numbers, copyright and the amount of work it involves to not only write a story but also draw the pictures and paint them to make them ready for publication.
Thursday will see projects from the rest of the seniors. Those will include coaching Special Olympics, using a CNC plasma cutter, fostering animals from the Reno County Animal Shelter, organizing the school's clothing room and painting murals for the new weight room. If you are interested, feel free to join us in the morning from 8:45-11:45 for the rest of the project presentations!
